“You are the God who makes extravagant promises.
We relish your great promises of fidelity and presence and solidarity, and we exult in them.
Only to find out, always too late, that your promise always comes in the midst of a hard, deep call to obedience.
You are the God who calls people like us, and the long list of mothers and fathers before us, who trusted the promise enough to keep the call.
So we give thanks that you are a calling God, who calls always to dangerous new places.
We pray enough of your grace and mercy among us that we may be among those who believe your promise enough to respond to your call.
We pray in the one who embodied your promise and enacted your call, even Jesus. Amen.”

Dealing with an end of life issue with a family member today, just pray I have words to share and comfort to give. I am just a piece of spiritual crap on a good day but I am all they have in many ways, and they deserve better than me and better then that.
brian–praying this morning for your request. FWIW, you are truly a treasure to this community and to those around you, and I wish you’d see yourself in that light. Blessings to you today.
brian, praying.
I have a praise! Thanks for those who prayed for my son while he was at camp. The experience was remarkable–he bonded with 18 other high school guys and 4 camp counselors. They hiked, camped in hammocks under the stars, mountain biked, played team sports, etc. When I arrived to pick him up, he and all the others were on the front porch of these two cabins that sat side by side. He said his goodbyes to all the guys, then turned to me with a smile a mile wide, and gave me the biggest hug ever…lifting me off the ground slightly.
I was completely stunned and overwhelmed with emotion. Anyway, our prayers were answered that he’d get his joy back. That he did, and I’m so thankful. The experience was a success. He had a blast the past two weeks. Thanking and praising God this morning for His goodness.
Brian, praying for the Lord to anoint you with the wisdom, love and peace you need to minister peace and consolation to your loved one.
MK, rejoicing with you over your son.
The Bruggemann prayer is beautiful and I am thankful for it today.
I would like to ask for prayer for my hubby tomorrow. He will be speaking at a feeding for homeless folks, many of whose lives are ravished by drugs, alcohol, and mental illness. He will be sharing his testimony and the Gospel. Please pray that the Lord will anoint him and give him the words to speak….above all, that the Holy Spirit will draw these folks unto Him.
Re my number 5….should be:
Brian, praying for the Lord to anoint you with the wisdom, love and peace THAT you need, to minister peace and consolation to your loved one
praying, praising and amening as i read Bruggemann, brian, mk, jlo and Nonnie this Sunday morning
Nonnie, will be praying.
Thank you Em.
brian, you are not a spiritual piece…you are a treasure to God, to us, and to your family. Praying for you today.
mk, thank you for sharing your praise. Rejoicing with you!
Nonnie, I can relate as I preached in a similar setting a few weeks ago. Will be praying for you hubby.
YOUR hubby!
Nonnie–praying also for your hubby.
CK–hoping you are feeling better. Any relief these past few weeks?
I’d like to ask for prayer. Tomorrow is my first official day back at work. Students begin the following Monday. I’ve had a really rough summer physically, and am concerned about making it through a full work day. Lately, any energy I have is pretty much gone by 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon, and the pain is unpredictable. My insurance has denied the handheld laser-electric device that my new pain doc wants me to have. She is checking to see how much it would cost without the insurance.
mk, on and off, mostly off. Thanks for asking.
CK, i don’t know the proper channels that redistribute such items, but sometimes expensive equipment gets donated for recycle … Catholic Charities might be a starting point … it is so hard to explain fatigue or pain to an outsider; broken bones and blood are much easier
praying
Praying for you Captain.
Thank you Em and Nonnie!
Also Kk before you buy anything, talk to me. I MAY have a connection that is a PT and MAY be able to get a deal for you. Not sure, but worth asking him.
Thanks Bones!
Please pray for my little (20 yrs old) cousin who is on a mission trip but hospitalized with dehydration and food poisoning since yesterday.
Her name is Jacki and they are in Belize.
Oops. Just found out it isn’t a mission trip. It’s just her and a friend who were traveling. Please keep the other girl in your prayers too.
adding CK and London to my prayer list.
Praying for the Captain and Jacki tonight.
Thanks all. Heard from Jacki’s dad who said that they found a doctor to treat her. She appears to have food poisoning from a burger earlier in the week.
They gave her some antibiotics “just in case” and hopefully she is on the mend.
Deadmanwalking posted this on Facebook:
“Things took a dive to new depths today. I know that no matter how low Jesus takes me, He has gone lower, but things today have taken me lower and lower, to be honest I have no strength and very little will to hang on any more. I just want off of this planet, but for reasons that escape me God won’t take me home, so I WAIT ..need prayer, I see no light at the end of the tunnel and I fell like I have been in this tunnel for a lifetime”
Praying for DMW. Lord have mercy.
praying DMW
praying for DMW and all this a.m. – Lord Jesus, You know
Praying DMW.
This is going to be the last year I do the whole backpack project so could use prayers my attitude doesn’t poison the whole thing this week.
This year has been incredibly hard and I just don’t have the enthuiasim or compassion any more.
On the outside things are going better than ever…getting some help from civic organizations, local branch of a big corporations etc. but the cost of things going from one penny to one dime is killing me. We used to be able to get 100 of whatever…rulers, pens etc for a dollar. And this year, that same money buys us only 10.
I’m just done. If I could say “sod it all” and dump the stuff we have off at my old elementary school and be done with it, I would.
reading the list again, praying as i best i can as i do so
