I have to work today too. But not all day hopefully.

  2. Winding up my trip here in Ca. My mom’s memorial service was last Sat.. It was a beautiful tribute to the transforming power of Christ in a woman’s life. I am missing my hubby, but have been blessed with special time with my children, my brothers and extended family. And I have gotten lots of Nonnie love and laughter from all the grandchildren. I am so thankful for each one of them, but now ready to get home. I am missing my hubby.

I ordered Michaels book and am looking forward to reading it!

***Please pray for The JOY Place this Sunday.

  4. HEY – visited the Amazon listing for Michael’s book – it seriously needs to add “a look inside” – if a shopper can read just *one* anecdote, it will sell the book – IMNSH (natural salesman’s opinion) that will do more to sell the book than any number of reader reviews will

Michael’s viewpoint is so unique that folks who don’t know the Lord or don’t Phoenix Preacher are apt to pass it by as sentimental fluff . . ..folks need the book, the Lord needs it read . . . IMHO

  5. Opened blog nonsense:
a hard drive crash without a back up drive and necessitating a new empty hard drive is nothing like redemption . . . now i’m chained to my machine trying to find and recapture my past . . . and, what’s worse, there’s no snark going on here to distract me from it lol

i see Kentucky is playing some basketball today . . .

and why is health care so hard to figure? . . . (just saw a CNN headline “would Jesus approve?) . . . the government’s proposed nightmare makes no sense at all IMNSHO . . . why can’t we have, if necessary, a government backed major medical plan similar to that supplied by the taxpayer to all those on dialysis at present – just let the day in day out well baby check-ups, broken bones and influenza diagnoses, etc go on without a need to bog down in government forms galore, which cost more than the treatment does . . .
back when i was raising children and had private health insurance, an acquaintance had no coverage and no money and she, her husband and her children got the same or better care, courtesy of private charity with proof of need – everything has gotten so contorted . . .

back to searching for and reformatting my past  . . .

  8. my copy of “MYOA” arrived this afternoon, so glad to have an excuse to stop for a while . .. . and . . . ahem . . . wouldn’t “The Missing Part” make a wonderful preview on Amazon?

The book is very nicely formatted – on a table of books that cover would stand out, i think and the binding is bettern what i got for my book(s) – that break on the spine makes a big difference IMO

    busy-body posting again

p.s. hi to Anne, going to check out your line @ 5

  10. Hey Em! I resemble that remark…

    Nah.

    I have been psycho busy.

You really have to invest in a external hard drive and “time machine” your Mac regularly. Live and learn.

by Reuben on Mar 31, 2012 at 3:20 PM

  11. Reuben, just joshing and thanks – believe it or not i have an external hard drive, but didn’t realize that i could keep it plugged in and recording . . . i think my old hard drive was farther gone than i realized as it wouldn’t transfer files into the external when i began to think, ‘uh-oh’

going to quit and go read thru my new book now . . . maybe, then, the guys will come out and stir things up here again . . .

by Em's parting shot on Mar 31, 2012 at 3:30 PM

  12. I will go ahead and drop the controversy bomb.

It is spineless of Driscoll to not own why this is happening. Further, it is spineless of Driscoll to play off the recent moves as, “everything is fine, we all love each other, life is grand”.

Not so long ago, the holy grail of evidence was presented to the world by a lawyer, and former elder/pastor at Mars Hill. Prior to this, it was Mark’s stated motivation to be “moving up” in involvement around the A29 world, and now he is suddenly scaling back? And this was planned out for months now?

So I stand here like a good PhxP participant and point out the glaringly obvious….

Aside from Mark being a misogynistic dirt bag, my way or the highway, “Its all about Jesus (and my new book)”, slanderer of everyone but his grunge rock UFC crowd, porno-visions, anti-blogger blogger, God left the UK because you are a bunch of girly-men, Jesus Is My Homeboy, he is also a FILTHY SCUM LIAR.

It bothers me that A29 does not make an example out of the “founder”.

It bothers me that there is so much stuff out there pointing to Mark and his leadership as a Napoleon Complex case study, yet PhxP gets hit and runs by “Mark-ites”, people who are taught to reject idolatry from Mr. No Idolatry himself.

People in the chairs at Mars Hill Seattle, they will stand by their man.

A29 will apparently allow him to be free of the chains of scrutiny.

I think this is a good and bad thing that happened last week. It is a good thing because Mark can’t pollute the movement with his macho man mentality anymore, but it is a bad thing because A29 is going to let him continue to do it, just slightly under the radar.

Mark Driscoll read PhxP the other night. So did a few other big names.

What is funny is that not one of them even attempted to contact me and wage protest. One hit and ran the blog. One.

by Reuben on Mar 31, 2012 at 3:58 PM

  13. Wow, Reuben…that ought to be an article in and of itself.

    Driscoll read the blog???

  14. Maybe we’ve all gotten busy, Em. I’ve got a baby on the way and Rob and I are still getting the room all fixed up. I’ve been looking at victorian stained-glass window designs recently, trying to get ideas for the weird interior window in that room. :/

  15. Brian, I had to delete some things from my comment. I am hot at the moment.

by Reuben on Mar 31, 2012 at 4:23 PM

  16. Oh the irony…

Right wing bomber thrower Rush Limbaugh remains fully ensconced behind the golden microphone at the E.I.B. headquarters…

Left wing bomb thrower Keith “Overbite” Olbermann gets thrown out on his arse by Albert Gore and replaced by Elliot Spitzer, huh? Wonder if that story will receive round the clock coverage in the media too? I doubt it ;-)

Aren’t there some big fans of Keith here?

by Scott on Mar 31, 2012 at 4:27 PM

  17. There’s so much that could be said about these churches and why people avoid them…and it’s more than people want to sin.

Spiritual abuse, authoritarianism, shepherdship from afar…

IF these guys read PP, and blogs like Wade Burleson’s, or Joyful Exiles, or even Stuff Christian Culture Likes, they should consider why people would leave and not come back, or why people wouldn’t show up in the first place.

That is, if they’re really all about Jesus…and not about their own corporate interests.

Because if the latter is the case and abuse is excused in order to perpetuate the “mission”, then their customer base eventually will dry up, and no more people, no more church. (Then again, they can go down the street and start another companychurch).

by BrianD on Mar 31, 2012 at 4:30 PM

  18. Brian, “(Then again, they can go down the street and start another company church).”

That is in effect what happened, was it not?

I mean, we just saw Haggard pull this bleep off. He gets nailed for a bit more of a socially unacceptable sin, and just moves the church down the street. Writes a book too!

It will be even better for Mark because he gets to keep his sheep to beat.

by Reuben on Mar 31, 2012 at 4:36 PM

  19. It happened with Haggard, it happened more times than anyone can count in Calvary Chapel, and it’s probably happened thousands of times over in every other denomination and movement since the early church itself.

I’m certain one of the things that the Calvary movement got right was the idea that if someone didn’t like what was going on in a church, they should shake the dust off their feet and leave.

Thing is about Mars Hill and other such churches is when you sign that membership covenant, it’s not as simple as shaking off dust if you need to bail.

  37. From the home office in Medford, Oregon, the top ten things that will get you placed under Double Church Discipline in a Young, Restless, Reformed church:

    10. Posting Pastor Mark’s love notes to Grace online

    9. Nominating Rachel Held Evans to be your church’s next senior pastor

    8. Letting your wife wear a “mommish haircut” and “momjeans” instead of making her dress like Lisa YoungGrace Driscoll

    7. Suggesting that Pastor Mark would lose to ANYONE in three seconds in a UFC-sanctioned match, including your wife. Or Brock Lesnar. :)

    6. Proclaiming that soccer is a much better sport than baseball will ever be

    5. Posting all of the PDFs from Joyful Exiles to The City

    4. Getting caught by an elder listening to K-LOVE in your car

    3. Suggesting that NT Wright and Scot McKnight might be more biblical than John Piper and CJ Mahaney

    2. Retweeting @fakedriscoll at any time other than once accidentially

    1. Watching the Final Four on TV instead of doubling up on your daddy-daughter and husband-wife dates and studying for the pastor’s sermon tomorrow morning

  49. Anne,
As you know, this isn’t the first time CCCM has given another part of the Body some time on the platform. Mike Erre spoke there about 2 years ago. I don’t think it is a bad thing, I have had non Calvary people at my church. It is a bit of a mixed message being that this is the church that sets the standards for all things within the movement; one of those being excluding those who embrace reformed theology. But, I won’t worry about what they do at their church, and they don’t need to worry about what I do at my church. Sounds like a win-win to me.

  83. Been an interesting couple of weeks for me on the job.

My boss told me they were placing a 22 year on my truck for training. 22 was enough to make me cringe a little, 22 year old trainees are a little too young for me, I’ve had 5 kids of my own, 22 year olds know it all ;-)

When I found out he was from Somalia, I was even more concerned. I thought to myself, “potential language barrier and a practicing Muslim whose religious practices and convictions could create friction for me.”

Boy, was I ever right on both fronts…

The first day out I loaded at Coors, he informs me that he cannot drive the truck loaded
with beer because Allah forbids him from doing so in the koran.

I was like, huh? A lot of my loads are alcohol of some sort.

He proceeded to tell me he can’t haul, tobacco, pork products, etc. I was thinking, oh no, what if I get a load of those Jewish Yamaks to NY City again? What about Christian bibles, or, a load of Lutheran Sunday School materials?

My first day out with him, I noticed a bulky wrist watch on his wrist. He was watching it intently at one point. He tells me, “I have to stop now and pray!” Turns out, the watch serves as an alarm and a compass showing him which way Mecca is. Did I mention it goes off 5 times a day? I stopped at the next truck stop. He gets out and faces toward Mecca and proceeds with his religious practice. Bowing to the ground several times and kissing it. I was thinking, dude, don’t you realize what some truckers do on the ground at truck stops? Mind you, he does this as conspicuously as possible and heads back to my conscicuously marked truck.

I immediately contacted my boss about what could potentially create a problem for me and the company logistically, etc. To which Human Resources responds as politically correct as possible, they would have to “accommodate” him and that I would essentially need to suck it up and “accommodate” him too. Even if it meant my whole mode of operation was being affected.

I wonder if they’d “accommodate” me trying to proselytize him to Christianity and he objected to it? I doubt it…;-)

One week out and I’ve had two loads of beer, in Milwaukee now heading back to Denver then over to Golden, guess what they produce here and Golden, CO? LOL

Called my boss today and asked them to remove him in Denver, where he lives. Not doing him much good watching me drive the truck.

  84. Scott,
That’s quite a story. I think the guy is probably jobbing you so you do all the work. ;-)

  85. MLD, it’s definitely not a situation one runs into every day, that’s for sure.

I must confess that I struggled a little in the back of my mind with how the 9/11 guys assimilated into society. I’ve wondered how many times did Mohamed Atta yuck it up with his American flight instructor and would I be interviewed some day by the F.B.I. post terrorist attack done in a large semi truck?

  86. Wow, Scott, what a strange predicament for your company to put you in. I thought after an emoloyer went over what your duties would be, they then ask if there is anything that would prohibit you from doing those duties.

By law, your company has to allow the 5 prayers, if safety permits, but also by law, you are not required to hire someone who can’t do the explicit job you are hiring them for.

I would be ticked at HR….but that’s just me.

    Glad he wasn’t a Somali Pirate ;)

  87. PN, you don’t know how many times I had to refrain from the Pirate reference :-)

Regarding accommodations in the workplace, a good friend suggested I pray with him in front of the truck stop fuel islands with a bible in one hand and cross in the other repeating the “Our Father” ,wearing a shirt the says, “I’M AN AMERICAN…GOD BLESS AMERICA!” LOL

  88. In all seriousness though, my company

  89. Scott, please finish your last post so we won’t think you just got run over by a Somali truck pirate.

  90. ….didn’t force me to take him. I shared my initial reservations and they asked if I would at least give it a shot. Didn’t work out and they are putting him with a “local” trainer. I hope all ends well in endwell.

  91. That was funny Captain! :-)
